PUSSY POWER
"Being a feminist doesn’t mean suddenly no longer liking problematic things. If you stopped liking everything that was sexist in media and entertainment there would be no media or entertainment left. Being a feminist, to me, is being aware of what it is you’re liking, and of its problematic aspects."

(via idontlikemyselfsogoaway)

I was literally just thinking this, I mean it’s just being a socially aware person in general. There are problems in so many things and it’s hard to un-see or not be critical of it once you become aware.

My problem right now is that being aware of the problematic aspects actually makes me not like things. Because sexism and other isms in media are not just “problematic” (that word can be such a fucking euphemism) but are actually oppressive. And I find it seriously hard to like “art” that is oppressive.

Yeah, that’s kind of shitty when you just can’t enjoy most of the movies, TV shows or books anymore. You think it’s great and then something sexist/racist/other -ist comes up and you can’t ignore it. It’s awkward because the oppressive part of anything I watch or read or listen is what stucks with me the most and then I just end up hating the whole thing. It’s not like you can say “I love this movie, even if it’s racist at some point hahaha”, but you can’t avoid and hate everything that happens to be sexist/racist/ other -ism at some point either. And that makes me really angry. You just CAN’T avoid this culture.
